‘Want That Partnership:’ Common Says He’s Eager To Be a Husband On New Episode of ‘Red Table Talk’

Opening up is nothing new for Common, because he’s been doing it on all 11 of his albums. But since he released “Let Love Have the Last Word: A Memoir,” he’s seemed to be expressing himself even more while promoting it.

On Monday (June 17), Common will be a guest on Jada Pinkett Smith‘s “Red Table Talk” series, and in a sneak peak he talked about his desire to get married.

“You said in the book also that you’ve accomplished everything but that you’re not a husband,” said Pinkett Smith.

“Yeah, that I would like to be a husband,” he replied. “Now I think that I just want that partnership. To be able to experience life where I’m growing as a human being and it’s fun too. “I know it’s hard, also.”

In a separate clip, Pinkett Smith also opened up and revealed what she had to do before finding love and marrying Will Smith, who she’s been married to for over two decades.

“I had to stop chasing peoples’ love, I had to stop chasing a feeling,” she told Common. “I had to stop chasing acknowledgement. And I had to learn to give it over to the higher power and that’s become my chase now.”

This is at least the second time in one month the “Like Water For Chocolate” rhymer discussed relationships.

When he stopped by “The Breakfast Club” in May, Common said he hasn’t been able to stay in relationships because he only stays interested during “the honeymoon period,” which he learned through therapy.

On another note entirely, some may be wondering if Pinkett Smith will bring up a raunchy line that Common said about her many years ago on his song “Sum Sh– I Wrote.”

The cut is off his classic 1994 album “Resurrection,” and on it he revealed his sexual fantasies about the actress, as he did the dancehall artist Patra.
