Nicki Minaj Slams Younger Female Rappers For Not Giving Her Credit: ‘I Always Shouted Out My Influences’

Nicki Minaj took to Instagram on Friday (July 5) to acknowledge that “Playtime is Over,” her first mixtape, reached its 12-year-anniversary.

Minaj also took some of the newer female rappers to task in the message and said very few of them have admitted they were influenced by her.

“12 years ago I dropped my 1st mixtape,” she wrote. “Wrote every single word on every single song. I was so proud of that. Eventually the barbz were all wearing pink hair, Chinese bangs, & Barbie chains. Colorful wigs came all the way back in style.”

“Everyone became Barbies & Dolls,” Minaj added. “I always shouted out my influences in my interviews. Now a days, it’s become cool to pretend u weren’t influenced by other artists.”

The New York rapper then named the female artists who have given her props, and she named Kash Doll, Asian Da Brat, Saweetie, Megan Thee Stallion, Malibu, Young Ma, Ms. Banks, and Lady Leshurr.

Minaj also seemed to blast female rappers that came before her and said only one of them reached out to collaborate.

“No female rapper (other than Trina) did a song w/me or congratulated me on my billboard accomplishments,” she wrote. “I didn’t mind. I never felt they were obligated to do so. I never had a crusade by radio stations, influencers & blogs to make my song number 1 when Anaconda was #2 on the Hot 100. I never had a group of men in the studio writing my songs for me.”

In some circles, it’s been said that Minaj hasn’t done a good job of laying down the welcome mat for up and coming female rappers, while others said she’s not obligated to since the same isn’t typically asked of male artists.

Minaj also had words for the press in her post and said many writers continue to create a false narrative about her.

“Please stop these write ups about what I didn’t do,” she demanded. “Y’all are rlly sick & ima call y’all out one by one on Queen Radio.”

Minaj’s fans chimed in afterwards.

“You did it on your own,” someone wrote.

“Nicki, you will always be the best to do it because of all the hate that you rose above!” wrote another. “My loyalty goes no where when it comes to you.”

But some were seemingly annoyed by “The Pinkprint” rapper’s message and they let her know.

“You complain so much,” that person wrote.
