Like many were, Rihanna was outraged that President Donald Trump didn’t call the two mass shootings over the weekend terrorist attacks, and she let him know about it on Instagram.
On Saturday, 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, a white male from Allen, Texas, opened fire at a shopping center in El Paso, Texas, where he killed 22 people and injured over two dozen.
He’s also being accused of writing a four-page manifesto titled “The Inconvenient Truth” on the message board 8chan, that was made up of hateful, white supremacist speech about immigrants, Hispanics and other minority groups. Crusius is now in police custody and has been charged with capital murder.
Then, 13 hours after the El Paso shooting, a 24-year-old white male named Connor Betts killed 9 people outside of the Ned Peppers Bar in Dayton, Ohio, and injured 27 others. Betts, who also murdered his sister during the shooting, was killed by police as he tried to enter the bar.
According to CNN, U.S. Attorney John Bash said federal investigators are looking at the El Paso shooting as domestic terrorism, and many others have called the Dayton shooting domestic terrorism as well.
But it’s a term that Trump hasn’t used, and in a tweet on Saturday he merely used the words “hateful attack.” In a Monday morning statement he said people have to condemn white supremacy, although he blamed both shootings on mental illness and violent video games.
Trump’s reactions seemed to anger Rihanna, who responded to his tweet on Sunday. She also brought up the shooting that took place at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California, on July 28.
In that tragedy, a 19-year-old white male named Santino William Legan shot and killed three people and injured 13. Legan also shot and killed himself during the incident.
“Um… Donald, you spelt “terrorism” wrong! Your country had 2 terrorist attacks back to back, hours apart leaving almost 30 innocent people dead,” wrote Rihanna, one day before two more El Paso victims died and brought the total number of fatalities to 31. “This, just days after yet another terrorist attack in California, where a terrorist was able to LEGALLY purchase an assault rifle (AK-47) in Vegas, then drive hours to a food festival in Cali leaving 6 more people dead including a young infant baby boy.”
“Imagine a world where it’s easier to get an AK-47 than a VISA! Imagine a world where they build a wall to keep terrorists IN AMERICA!!!” she added. “My prayers and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims and the communities affected and traumatized, from Texas, California, and Ohio! I’m so sorry for your loss! Nobody deserves to die like this! NOBODY!”
“Say it louder for the ppl in the back 🗣🗣,” wrote one of Rihanna’s Instagram followers afterwards.
“Damn RiRi that’s hard “imagine a world where it’s easier to get an Ak-47 than A VISA” 🔥🙏🏼,” wrote someone else.
